More About Female Pattern Baldness
Female pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is a common form of hair loss in women. While it shares similarities with male pattern baldness, the pattern of hair loss tends to be different.
In female pattern baldness:
- Thinning at the crown: Women with this condition often experience diffuse thinning at the top of the scalp. Unlike men, who typically develop a receding hairline, women tend to maintain their frontal hairline.
- Widening part: As the hair becomes thinner, the part may appear wider than usual.
- Overall thinning: Hair loss in female pattern baldness is usually more widespread and doesn’t result in complete baldness as seen in men. Instead, it leads to overall thinning of the hair.
Female pattern baldness is primarily influenced by genetics and hormonal factors. It’s believed to be associated with the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which can shrink hair follicles over time, leading to shorter and finer hair growth.
